Lake Country was established as a municipality in 1995. There are four distinct neighbourhoods in Lake Country, Carrs Landing, Okanagan Centre, Oyama, and Winfield.
The neighbourhood of Carrs Landing is found on the Okanagan lakeside and is still considered a major agricultural area. There are many vineyards, wineries, and orchards that complement the natural surroundings. Some new developments in Lake Country include the master-planned community of Lakestone. Lakestone has convenient community amenities, stunning architecture, and a luxurious appeal.
The most popular beach is the one found in most backyards, however, there is also public access found at the local favourite Coral Beach. There are several other beach accesses and one boat launch in the area. The boat launch is a hidden gem for locals and is considerably less busy than other launches in downtown Kelowna and the Lower Mission. Homes in lower Carrs Landing are quaint and there are many fixer-uppers, nestled in between renovated options for sale. A few restaurants and coffee options are located on Carrs Landing Road. More big box options can be found up the hill in Winfield and some residents also prefer to shop in the neighbouring Kelowna community of North Glenmore.
Okanagan Centre is located on the east shores of Okanagan Lake. OK Centre is another agriculturally predominant area of Lake Country. Many homes are located on acreage and farm property with grapes and fruit orchards that sprawl from high up in the bench down to the lake shore. While many of the homes in OK Centre are modest farmhouses you’ll also discover some knockout waterfront estates in Okanagan Centre. Privacy, quiet streets, and an abundance of property combined with the lakeshore make it enticing for those searching for a place to unwind.
Oyama is a predominant farming community located between Wood Lake and the gorgeous jewel of the Okanagan, Kalmalka Lake. It is a mecca for locals and tourists to pick up fresh produce including fresh vegetables, fruit, and flowers. The Okanagan Rail Trail has opened this Lake Country neighbourhood to a steady bike and walking traffic flow. Local residents of Oyama are also frequent patrons of the rail trail and use it regularly to commute straight through to downtown Kelowna. Very shortly the connection will also be complete to Vernon.
Homes in Oyama are a mix of older-style subdivisions, farm acreage, mobile home parks, and a few townhome options. Many property owners benefit from lake views and/or lake access from their homes in Oyama. Oyama is a beautiful hidden gem in the Okanagan Valley. It’s got all three Q’s nailed down, from quaint to quiet, Oyama is quintessentially Okanagan.
Winfield is the central hub for Lake Country. You’ll find all your needs are serviced in downtown Winfield. Schools, shopping, dining, and professional services are easily accessible for all Lake Country residents. All the usual fast-food suspects, as well as some cherished Okanagan dining gems like L’Isola Bella can be found here.
There are multiple options to live near or on Wood Lake in Winfield, including condo buildings surrounding popular Beasley Park. Beasley has a few soccer pitches, a playground, and a beach with access to Wood Lake. It’s a favourite pastime of local residents. Next to Beasley is the Wood Lake Campground. This campground has a boat launch, marina, and one of the most popular pubs in the Okanagan, Turtle Bay.
Just before the Lakes master-planned community, you’ll find another shopping area with even more food, dining, and professional service options. Winfield has a few mobile home parks available for affordable options, and a fair share of fixer-uppers perfect for renovations.
